Our Story - Nicole & Jake
Welcome from Jake and Nicole !
Well its time for hopefully a short introduction of myself and Jacob.
I’m Nicole Smart and am co-owner of Smarty Pants Boutique NH with Jacob Meyer. Jacob and I recently moved to Epping, NH to renovate a home to be wheelchair accessible.
A little background Jacob and I have been together almost 17 years. Jacob is Jake to basically everyone except me and his Mom. We met at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH. During our first meeting I throughly embarrassed myself by asking a table of his/our mutual friends who the cute boy was after he left the table. Just as the words left my mouth Jake sat down a few seats over and overheard everything I said. I blushed and quickly excused myself knowing he heard me and ran off to class not giving him a chance to respond himself. His only option then was for him to ask our friends who I was and what my AOL messenger was so he could contact me (wow dating myself ! ). He wrote me that night and we quickly started talking then become inseparable within a week. .
Jake and I were dating barely a year when I went home for Thanksgiving break. Sadly on the way to my job I was in a terrible car accident. My car hydroplaned, then rolled, finally essentially crushing itself after coming to a stop almost onto the highway. I was severely injured. I ended up suffering a spinal cord injury resulting in becoming paraplegic. I use a wheelchair daily for mobility.
Jake has been with me every minute as has some great family and friends. Jake helped me amazingly return to college only two months after the initial accident. During this time we lived in a single dorm room. We did this for 6 months until we graduated in June 2005.
Jake and I now live in Epping NH with our 3 fur-kids Bella, Catniss, and Hobbes (our newest little Bengal Kitten Monster).
We have dealt with a lot of bumps in the road due to my spinal cord injury - resulting in multiple surgeries and extended bed rest too many times to count.
Jake and I discovered the Ogo Wheelchair at an abilities expo and that’s when I decided I had to have one - but unfortunately insurance doesn’t pay for specialized equipment. This left us to find a way to afford a $20,000.00 Wheelchair and a $80,000.00 wheelchair van to be able to transport it.
After thinking and researching we finally decided that since I’m legging obsessed myself that we would open Smarty Pants Boutique NH with the sole goal of fundraising needed medical equipment. I always personally wanted to help earn the funds to purchase the wheelchair and van. It was extremely important to me to earn the funds instead of doing a go fund me fundraiser or local fundraiser as honestly I feel others could use the donations more then me.
I really hope you try out our leggings, capris, joggers, sweatshirts, t-shirts, or masks and love them ! We really try to have something for everyone solid colors, animals, awareness, skull prints, fashion prints, and so much more ! We both do our best to find the very best quality, unique designs, and softest leggings.
We appreciate you all being here and supporting out small business.
